NHPT 2009 Annual Meeting
Please join us for the 2009 Annual Meeting of the New Haven Preservation Trust on Tuesday, May 12 at 5 pm at the First Presbyterian Church (704 Whitney Avenue, New Haven).
We are honored to welcome this year’s distinguished speaker, Kevin Roche, FAIA, principal in the firm of Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo & Associates. Mr. Roche will present “The Value of Preserving the Past”.
After graduating from University College Dublin and working in Dublin, London, and Chicago, Kevin Roche joined the firm of Eero Saarinen and Associates, the predecessor of Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates, in 1950. In 1954, he became the principal design associate to Eero Saarinen working on all the major projects. Following Mr. Saarinen’s death in 1961, Mr. Roche–together with John Dinkeloo–inherited the Saarinen practice. Mr. Roche, as designer, was responsible for completing twelve of Saarinen’s major works, which included the TWA Terminal at JFK, the Dulles International Airport, the CBS Headquarters, Bell Labs Headquarters, and the St. Louis Arch. In 1966, the firm of Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo & Associates was formed.
Mr. Roche has master planned and designed diverse facilities noted for their advances in design concepts. His completed work includes 8 museums, 38 institutional and corporate headquarters, 7 research laboratories, performing arts centers, theaters, campus buildings for 6 universities, and the Central Park Zoo. In the last 40 years, he has developed the master plan for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has designed all of the new wings in addition to installing several of the collections. Mr. Roche is the recipient of numerous awards and was the second American architect to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1982.
A reception and silent auction—featuring items of New Haven and Yale history, gift certificates from area merchants, and other treasures—will follow Mr. Roche’s talk. (Cash or check only please; we will be unable to accept credit cards at this event.) All proceeds will benefit the Trust.
The Annual Meeting is free and open to the public. Parking will be available in the Red Cross parking lot across the street from the church.
