C. Michael Tucker
Assistant Treasurer
After living in Columbus, Ohio, for 18 years, Michael headed east to Dartmouth College for his undergraduate degree, majoring in Architecture. After graduation from Dartmouth, he enrolled at Columbia University for his Master’s in Architecture. In 1968, Columbia was embroiled in student demonstrations, and Michael joined other architecture students in occupying the architectural school and spending hours in discussions as part of a participatory democracy. The emphasis of the discussions was that, as professionals, architects had an obligation to work in communities to help improve the life of those communities. These discussions changed Michael’s life. From then on, he worked with numerous groups, mostly non-profits, in New York, Philadelphia, Seattle, and New Haven on preserving communities and, particularly, creating affordable housing. In New Haven, since 1983, Michael has been on the boards of several non-profits, including the New Haven Preservation Trust, serving as President in 2004.
