This October, the New Haven Preservation Trust joins Congregation B’nai Jacob to celebrate Docomomo US’ Tour Day theme “places of worship” with a guided look inside their mid-century Woodbridge synagogue. Following a survey presentation of modern American synagogue architecture, our hosts will guide us through the building’s luminous and lofty spaces, designed between 1957 and 1960 by Jewish German émigré Fritz Nathan (b. 1891), with extensive window art by French stained glass master Jean-Jacques Duval (b. 1930).
This New Haven Preservation Trust tour is led by Kyle Driebeek, Joe Blumberg and David Skolnick and is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required.
Join thousands of participants in cities across the U.S. throughout the month of October for Docomomo Tour Day, an annual celebration of modern architecture and design. Tours will explore the multifaceted theme of urban renewal — seeking to revisit and better understand the complexity of the projects that were built, their significance, positive and negative impacts, and their legacy today.
