Charles H. Townsend, 1896, New Haven Harbor, New Haven Museum

Join the City and the New Haven Preservation Trust at the Boathouse at Canal Dock to celebrate the listing of Long Wharf Pier on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally constructed in the late seventeenth century, the pier was extended in 1810 using an innovative method of stone construction by William Lanson, a free Black entrepreneur, engineer, and abolitionist. Come learn more about the story of this important maritime structure with a talk by historian Bruce Clouette at 5:30pm, followed by a reception with ice cream on the pier at 6:30pm.

Parking is limited. Please indicate when registering if you need an on site parking spot due to limited mobility. Additional parking can be found at IKEA, 450 Sargent Drive, New Haven.

The celebration is free and open to all. Registration encouraged but not required.

Event made possible through the valued support of City of New Haven, the Woman’s Seamen’s Friend Society of Connecticut, and Yale University Office of New Haven Affairs.
