2026 Historic House Tour: Douglas Orr and the Colonial Revival

Step inside six exceptional private homes designed by Douglas Orr, from Lincoln Street to Prospect Hill, concluding with a reception at the New Haven Lawn Club, one of the architect’s masterpieces.

Douglas Orr (1892–1966) was a leading New Haven architect whose work helped define the city’s residential, civic, academic, and commercial landscape for nearly five decades. Trained at Yale, Orr built a reputation for thoughtful, strong community ties, and stylistic versatility. Nationally respected, he served as president of the American Institute of Architects in 1947 and vice-chair of the commission overseeing the reconstruction of the White House during the Truman administration.

Meet at the Church of the Redeemer Apartments at 575 Whitney Avenue, New Haven to pick up your ticket and tour booklet.

Please note that the tour properties are private homes and may not be fully ADA accessible.

Proceeds benefit the New Haven Preservation Trust.
