Charles E. Warner Jr.

Charles E. Warner Jr. is a proud native of New Haven, Connecticut, where he was raised in a family deeply engaged in the educational and civic fabric of the city. A product of the New Haven Public Schools, Charles graduated from Hill Regional Career High School before continuing a proud family tradition as the fifth generation to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the historic Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

With nearly two decades of experience in public education, Charles now serves as the Community Engagement Manager at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. In this role, he helps bridge academic resources with community voices, ensuring inclusive and impactful engagement around Yale’s archival collections.

Deeply grateful for the support and guidance of his community, Charles gives back through active volunteerism and leadership. He serves on numerous boards and committees, including the Board of Dixwell Q House; Amistad Committee, Inc.; and the New Haven America 250th Committee.

Charles is a Community Historian, skilled in archival research, writing, presentation, and curating. Charles recently was the Co- Lead Curator for the nationally recognized exhibit, “Shining Light on Truth: New Haven, Yale, and Slavery,” and is a Contributing Curator for the current exhibit “Shining Light on Truth: Black Lives at Yale and in New Haven,” which is housed at Yale’s Schwarzman Center until March of 2026. Through each of these roles, Charles continues to honor the legacy of those who came before him while working to build a more informed and engaged future for his community.
