About the State Historic Preservation Office

The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is responsible for overseeing the governmental program of historic preservation for Connecticut’s citizens. SHPO administers a range of federal and state programs that identify, register and protect the buildings, sites, structures, districts and objects that comprise Connecticut's cultural heritage. They also offer assistance in applying for State and Federal tax credits for qualified historic rehabilitation projects. 

About Connecticut Historical Society

The Connecticut Historical Society houses a museum, library, and the Edgar F. Waterman Research Center that are open to the public and funded by private contributions. The CHS’s collection includes more than 4 million manuscripts, graphics, books, artifacts, and other historical materials accessible at our campus and on loan at other organizations. The CHS collection, programs and exhibits help Connecticut residents connect with each other, have conversations that shape our communities, and make informed decisions based on our past and present.

About Connecticut Trust For Historic Preservation

The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation works to preserve, protect, and promote the historic buildings, sites, structures, and landscapes that contribute to the heritage, economy, and vitality of Connecticut communities. The Connecticut Trust’s Circuit Rider program provides a wide range of tools to individuals and communities across Connecticut through investigative visits, consultations, and meetings. They have experience with financial and economic development incentives, tax credits, State and CT Trust grants, historic districts, local ordinances, and much more. The Connecticut Trust staff can also assist with getting your building listed on the National, State, or Local registers and applying for historic tax credits.
